Sedation Care Procedure

At Seoul Smart Dental Clinic, sedation treatment begins after a thorough consultation and a check of your health,
and throughout the entire treatment the patient's condition is monitored,so treatment can proceed carefully and comfortably.

Sedation care is not only for complex implant cases;
it can be applied to many treatments that cause dental fear.

Don't let pain make you miss the right time to see the dentist.
Same-day sedation allows several treatments and multiple areas to be treated together.

What is laughing gas (N₂O) treatment?

A simple method of inhaling a gas mixture of low-concentration nitrous oxide and oxygen,
whose calming effect helps reduce anxiety, tension and fear,
so dental treatment can be received more smoothly.

About its safety

Safety of N₂O

Laughing gas is a mixture of nitrous oxide and oxygen; when you breathe it in,
the mind calms and tension eases. When oxygen is inhaled afterward, it does not remain in the body
and is fully exhaled, and side effects are generally rare.
Recovery is quick, so it does not greatly disrupt daily life.

However, the sedation is lighter than with medication-based sedation,
so several visits may be needed when multiple teeth need treatment.

N₂O Sedation Precautions

  1. 01

The patient must not eat solid food from midnight the day before the appointment. Liquids may be given up to 4 hours before the appointment for children aged 3 and under, up to 6 hours before for ages 3–6, and up to 8 hours before for ages 7 and older. Oral medication is absorbed better on an empty stomach, and because stomach contents can block the airway in case of nausea or vomiting, it is best not to give milk, which solidifies in the stomach.

  2. 02

A parent must accompany the child. They should be able to notice the difference between the child's usual state and their state while the medication is taking effect.

  3. 03

When coming to the clinic, a third person should drive so the guardian can watch the child closely.

  4. 04

After arriving home, the child must not be left alone while the medication is still in effect.

  5. 05

The child is relaxed rather than asleep, so handle them gently, and keep a quiet, comfortable environment after arriving home from treatment.
